Current online catalog at KEMPER

KEMPER has been working successfully with the crossbase software solution for many years. Projects to further optimize the application and make even better use of it are constantly arising. In this case, the crossbase API interface was implemented at KEMPER.

With the crossbase API, we can now deliver the product information from the PIM to our website even better. This means that the online catalog is always up to date with minimal effort.

Initial situation

Kemper used an XML interface based on BMECat to transfer product information from the crossbase PIM system to the website and the online catalog it contains. As part of a redesign, the online agency TWT was commissioned to design and implement the new website. Instead of the BMECat interface, a modern API interface from crossbase was chosen for data transfer. This was partly because the agency specified this.

Procedure

The FirstSpirit content management system (CMS) used by KEMPER was connected via REST API services from crossbase. All relevant product information is managed in the crossbase PIM and MAM system and then transferred to the CMS on a time-controlled basis.

Product information from the crossbase database is displayed in the online catalog. In particular, this includes technical product features, product texts, product images, technical drawings, data sheets, references to existing standards and approvals as well as links that are generated dynamically.

KEMPER uses the option of text generation for product description texts. These are broken down into individual document modules that can be used for various products. As the text modules only need to be translated once, the translation effort is significantly minimized.

Country management is carried out via crossbase's Channel Output Management (COM). This generates product ranges and price lists for specific markets and countries.

Result

By implementing the crossbase API interface, KEMPER was able to optimize product data transfer to the CMS and make data maintenance in the online catalog more efficient. The switch to a modern REST API enables a flexible and customizable connection to make it easier for users to access product information.

Advantages

  • Modern REST API technology in the latest common interface format
  • Individual adaptations can be implemented quickly
  • Flexible, customer-specific adaptations of the API services
  • Language and country control
  • Further use of the API interface for other systems (internal sales support)
